Eclectic Downtempo/Hip Hop group, their sound is seriously laid back, like Bonobo or Lee Perry... you just instantly space out into smoke screened atmospheres.

Pepe Bradock

Super floaty Parisian Deep House, sampling just the intro to Freddie Hubbard's 'Little Sunflower' and looping over and over, slowly adding the tiniest bits at a time, perfect comedown House full of warm/rich sounds.

Dennis Coffey

70's American Multi-instrumentalist Funk/Soundtrack artist, best known probably for either his soundtrack to Black Belt Jones or his hit instrumental track Scorpio, which is what i'm posting now... but dont think i'm posting his best, it's reallllllly hard to call what his best stuff is, my personal fave is the main theme from BBJ but i've posted Scorpio because it's a great introduction to his work & the video is Soul Train, so like... yeah

60's Australian Garage Rock/Beat duo mostly known for this track & another named 'Bad Times' both of which have featured on multiple rarities comps, Upbeat sixties Pop vibes.

Akino Arai

Japanese female soloist track taken from the anime Macross Plus, the whole soundtrack is pretty good but this track stands out to me, a sort of Trip Hop/Jazzy ballad, smooth.

Giant Squid

Post Metal, their 'Metridium Fields' album is absolutely amazing, imagine TOOL, System of a Down & Russian Circles all getting together for a jam & you're close, highly recommended.

Long ''Cleve'' Reed & Little Harvey Hull

Possibly as old as 1920's Blues music, taken from the Down In The Basement: Joe Bussard's Treasure Trove of Vintage 78''s compilation on Old Hat Records [great label], story goes that the only existing copy of this 78 is the one in Bussard's collection, so we're privy to hear this. The song [like a lot of other Blues tracks] is based on the tale of Stagger Lee.

Fingathing

Hip Hop/Nu Jazz act from Ninja Tune, in the same vein as Mr. Scruff their music is hard to label, it's often Hip Hop, but then it also isn't... this track in specific is a terrible inticator of what their music is like, but at the same time is my favorite tune by them & a brilliantly uplifting/floaty one at that.

Pax

Heavy Psychedelic Rock from Peru, this very short lived [2 years to my knowledge] band only released one self titled album [again to my knowledge] but it's full of kickass Psych grooves.

Edge of Darkness

93'' UK Oldskool Rave/Breakbeat Hardcore from After Dark Recordings, this is my favorite track from this label or any of it's affiliates, it's like over the top Jungle with a sort of ethereal/fantasy element to it, total rave up bizznezz. 

Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck

Harsh Noise/Retarded Punkism [i just invented that word, whatever] IMO... Punk is dead, at least in the form it used to be, the new Punk is Noise, it's angry & chaotic, it has a 'fuck you' attitude more so than any other genre of 'music' which is something a lot of people aren't even willing to see it as, but even more so the stage [well they play in the crowd] presence of bands like is what Punk is all about, all over the place, frantic, improvisational, fun & in this instance naked. They're from Boston USA & their live shows are more impressive than their releases, but thats only because this is very energetic Noise, you see/hear a mess of movement and sounds all meshing together. This set really kicks in at about 1:20

Japanese Electronic Soundscapes of IDM... like oldskool Autechre, this guy is mysterious & i cant find a lot of information on him, but i can tell you his Information Warfare is amazing.

Jeff Alexander

This song composed by Alexander & sung by Bonnie Beecher originally featured in an episode of The Twilight Zone, it was later used again in the 2003 film by Vincent Gallo 'The Brown Bunny', it's a soft spoken/acoustic classic.

Dopplereffekt

Detroit Techno/Electro duo who for some strange reason mask themselves behind German pseudonyms, their music is Minimal/Cold/Dark/Funky/Sexy... the whole bag, like Kraftwerk meets Johannes Heil, this is also another one of those acts where if you like this, you'll love all of it.

MSBR & Government Alpha

Covering two legendary Noise artists with one post [because this video is a feature of the two of them + more contributing to an in-store set] simply put, if you enjoy Harsh Noise 'emphasis on harsh' then you'll love this, both artists are from Japan & both work with the more Punk approach to Noise, like Hanatarash, Dilloway, Masonna, more so than say Merzbow or Maurizio Bianchi... a beautiful exploration of sounds most people prefer not to hear.

La Revolucion de Emiliano Zapata

70's Psychedelic Rock from Mexico... they remind me somewhat of the Moody Blues, switching between catchy riff based Psych to more Folk/Psych Ballads [see: Again con Angelica Maria], nice and catchy/feel good stuff.

The Third Eye Foundation

Alias of Bristol based producer Matt Elliott, who's music spans Experimental Jungle/DnB to Trip Hop & further... a lot of it is creepy/melon collie, but then you have full on rave style Jungle layered over heartbreakingly beautiful piano solo's and moans/drones, i recommend everything he's ever done, the Ici d'ailleurs releases triloy may be an easier starter for some, but grabbing all of TEF's stuff is essential too.

Gromov

Super heavy Breakcore from Russia, POUNDING chaotic amen breaks & Public Enemy samples... this is intense, if you like this grab his album of the same title, it kills.

Unsane

Noise Rock from New York, their first 4 album are all worth digesting... screeching guitars, feedback, strained vocals, a classic 'destroy the fuck out of something' Punk angst group. On another note my reason for posting this is also that my last few posts haven't had videos, whereas this has a great one.

70's Pop/Disco/Funk act mostly known for their hit single 'You Sexy Thing', i know most people already know the group, but this track deserves posting, smooth Funk Pop.

Robad Pills

Florida based Breakcore from SickMode, the whole 'Put Down That Clove And Get A Fucking Life ep' is worth checking, for fans of Enduser/Snares etc...

Studio G Beat Group

Library labels like KPM, De Wolfe Studio, April Orchestra have been recognized for a long while now, only recently have Studio G got any real 'outside the scene' attention having had a compilation release on Trunk Records. This specific record is hard to come by, full of Psych Rock awesomeness... i spent years looking for a copy after hearing some of the tracks feature in the sexploitation film 'Deadly Weapons'  if you ever see this record buy it.

Female fronted Powerviolence from San Francisco, California... heavy breakdowns, intelligent song structures & raw/aggressive vocals, grab the self titled release & the eyeless 7''.

Nurse With Wound

Steven Stapleton aka NWW is the king of Drone/Industrial/Dark Soundscape/Creepiness... my biggest recommendation is to his Soliloquy for Lilith series... full of spacey, atmospheric drone worlds. This video acts a perfect introduction to his work, disturbed visions of bizarre worlds.

Sunburned Hand of the Man

Associated with the New Weird America Psych Folk movement going on [Espers/Animal Collective/CocoRosie etc...] this Boston group have an ever adapting lineup & create music of such vast difference that they are again impossible to pidegon hole, Psychedelic Experimentation is the usual game, but done in ways reminiscent of everyone from the Grateful Dead to NWW.

Anti Cimex

80's Swedish D-Beat/Hardcore Punk, this reeks of angst & aggression... if you like your Punk raw & fast, you'll love this.

ESG

Called Art-Funk probably due to the fact that while Funk... this group sounds nothingggg like anything else within that category, formed by 3 sisters from the South Bronx & a close friend they released an awesome self titled album back in the early 80's, this specific track has been sampled by everyone from Afrika Bambaataa & 2Pac to Dilla... classic

EYヨ

Tetsurō Yamatsuka, also known as Yamantaka Eye, Yamatsuka Eye, eYe etc... is hands down one of my favorite musicians, i've not heard a project by him that i haven't liked, starting with the notorious Hanatarash [one of the most extreme & influential Noise acts EVER] & going through all forms of Experimentalism in acts such as Noise Ramones, Puzzle Punks, MC Hellshit & DJ Carhouse, Nani Nani [with John Zorn] & Destroy 2, not to mention all the even smaller side projects with Sonic Youth or his Turntablism madness under DJ Pica Pica Pica & DJ Chaos X and his most renown role as the percussionist/singer/trickster of Psych-Rock group Boredoms, to say he's eclectic is an understatement. Tetsurō has always abide by a Punk aesthetic no matter what project he's in & his stance on making music is a very childish one, making sounds from anything at hand/using instruments in non conventional manners and using unconventional things AS instruments. This is a rare 2 part video interview showing how he does what he does... it's in Japanese, but you really don't need to understand to enjoy it.

Soft spoken Experimental Pop melodies from Sweden... this is my favorite track by her, a cover of The Doors, which i personally feel far surpasses the original [of which i'm not a fan] the original is so upbeat & jangly, this is how i want the track to sound... melodic, heartfelt, depressing, beautiful.

Groove Chronicles

More UK Garage, released on the artists self titled Label, both this & the b-side are amazing, but this is the standout classic... Dark & mellow 2-step intro cut up with Aaliyah & Sax samples, all dropping into deep moody basslines... this tune is rudeeee

Maryanne Amacher

Fascinating American Experimental Noise artist, her work focuses mainly on otoacoustic emission [sound which is generated from within the inner ear] & when played at the right sound level, which is quite high and exciting, the tones in her music will cause your ears to act as neurophonic instruments that emit sounds that will seem to be issuing directly from your head. This is a clip from a 30 min docu of her being visited by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth.

One of the many aliases of Erick Morillo, Club Classic House music... hypnotic & deep, from the epic label Strictly Rhythm.

Sun Araw

Part of the whole NNF underground scene going on at the moment, modern Psychedelic classics... i love the boomkat & lastfm descriptions of 'echo-erased vocals and all manner of jangly, smudged out percussion' & 'Creepster tropical psychedelic drone' both are SPOT ON... this is light up/drop in/zone out type business from Long Beach USA.

Naked City

One of John Zorns best projects, Experimental/Free-Jazz/Grind...Rock!?! another one of those impossible to classify acts, their self titled album & Torture Garden are amazing, packed full of ideas that were way ahead of their time. I chose one of their most deranged [but awesome] songs here, mainly because it's got cut up scenes from Mathew Barneys Cremaster Cycle over it... and they fit soooo well.

Premature Ejaculation

Dark/Creepy/Experimental... Soundscape Noise? this is my favorite project from Rozz Williams of Christian Death... in their short lived and extreme existence they created nightmarish collages of voice samples/wailing drones/screeches/machine sounds... it's very world creating, but it isn't a world many people would want to live in, Throbbing Gristle fans will love this.

Wookie

One of UK Garage's biggest producers released this classic remix of the R&B/House hit 'Little Man' under the alias Exemen, it's one of my favorite garage tracks... there's a real Tropical/Dubstep vibe going on here... i cant see how anyone can dislike this.

IDM/Minimal Electronic music from Germany, his music is often relaxing, glitchy & atmospheric... the video also really helps this one. 

DJ Red Alert & Mike Slammer

Oldskool Rave/Breakbeat Hardcore from the UK, i had to post these guys... everything they touched was gold, their entire Slammin' Vinyl discog, everything on the 6 volume Question Mark series, their few tunes under DJ Red Alert & Pepsi & notably the Original Bad Boy ep, which while still on Slammin' Vinyl was released under the alias D-Force. I cant begin to describe how many moments of my life have been soundtracked by these guys since my friend Alex hooked me up way back in my teens. CLASSIC!

Tom Zé

Brazilian Tropicália artist often noted alongside Beefheart & Zappa, his music has everything from easy going grooves to seriously bizarre experimentation, i've posted one of his more conventional tracks, for something more strange check out 'TAKA-TÁ'... it's pretty hard to want to disagree with all the comments calling this guy a genius.

Pierre Bastien

French Experimental instrument constructor... In 1986 he formed his own orchestra, Mecanium, composed of Meccano machines which play various instruments, such as Chinese lute, Morrocan bendir, Javanese saron, koto, and violin. These machines were often driven by the rotation of old turntables. His music is impossible to classify & because of this i'll just say Experimental, but it's also highly intellectual, playfully childish &  strangely easy to digest. 

Genghis Tron

Experimental Metal at it's finest, often labelled Cybergrind due to their Grindcore'esque fast/short song nature and their incorporation of computers... there simply isn't another act out there at the moment making stuff quite like this [that i've heard anyway].

Roy Davis Jr.

Garage classic from America, probably wont be an introduction to most... even if you dont recognize the title, you should know the melody, i'm posting this purely because Garage on a whole is a shunned genre, seen as simple and short lived for a good reason... but it's tunes like this that force people to re-evaluate that stance & keep digging before dismissing, blissful sunrise anthem.

80's Disco classic from Canada, sexy mirrored dancefloor grooves... everything about these guys self titled album reeks of sex, one of my all time favorite Disco tracks & off an equally stunning album full of sampling possibility.

Jungle Bunnies

94 Jungle from South London label Ard Kickin' Toonz, which only ever released this 12''... ethereal vocals, spacey synth's & amens galore from deep in the jungle, ere dis.

Datassette

Often filed in with Chiptune/8-bit, this UK producers stuff is definitely transcendent of that... Electro/Minimal DnB/Glitch... simply put Computer Music, like Kraftwerk for the hipster rave era... his self titled album and a lot of the work done under his Datashat alias are awesome.

Bobby Caldwell

70's Soul/Slow Groove/Crooner material from this American multi-instrumentalist, kept hearing this at work & couldn't get it out of my head... classic, this was Caldwell's top ranking single and gained him a lot of notoriety in Japan apparently, while i cant vouch for his other material, this track & the self titled album it's off are amazing.

Glasgow based Wonky Beat producer & recent Warp signee, his album 'Butter' is ready to drop any day now & i'm pretty excited considering the quality of everything he's released already [which notably is A LOT], Hud Mo's sound is broken up/wonky/glitched out Hip Hip melodies for scenesters & true heads alike.

Tuu

Tuu was an ambient group from the late 1980s to 1999. Led by Martin Franklin, the band emerged from the post acid house chill out scene of early 1990s in the UK, blending electronica and the emerging sampling technology with traditional and invented global instrumentation. [taken from wiki] My take on this track specifically though is that it's world creating, deep & meditative stuff.

Graves At Sea

Sludge Metal act who's 2004 feature length Documents of Grief was my primary metal album for a longgg time, if you dig EHG, Fistula, Botch etc... you'll love this, raw/progressive/brutal.

Marco Passarani

Experimental Techno, sometimes sounding like both Aphex & Autechre, but also just quite it's own thing... pleasantly complex, electronic soundscapes.

Matias Aguayo

Sexy/Tribal/Exotic/Experimental House/Tech/Something... no idea, such a fresh sound, his whole Ay Ay Ay album is imo essential listening & the fact he's signed up to sexy new label Cómeme pretty much seals how awesome he is... my favorite thing about this guys music is how much he plays around with natural sounds/childish melodies made with a type of 'la la la' technique, but crafted so elegantly.

Vaski

There's so much Dubstep around at the moment that it's hard to filter through, but everyone's a fan of the truly FILTHY stuff... this Canadian producer is up there with Borgore/Cookie Monsta and the like as being in the 'bass abusing, vomit inducing, speaker testing warfare' category, you pretty much already know if you're gonna like this.

Japanese Modern Classical/Minimal Electronic... like Max Richter, GYBE & Ryoji Ikeda all morphed into something new.

Chevron & Karl Marx Stadt

Individually awesome producers, Chevron having released classics on both Planet Mu & Wrong Music and Stadt releasing intricate IDM/Breakcore/Hard Jungle, most recently my favorite being 'Top Sound Killer' on Ulan Bator Records, but this track features on the Lord Harvestman’s Trackx unreleased mini album that came out to celebrate the Lovely Time Tour... it's insane that this hasn't had a proper release considering it's quality.

The influence of multiple areas of 'World' music/Film Soundtracks/Trip Hop are all apparent in this Budapest producers work, discogs labels this guy Gypsy Jazz, Abstract, Downtempo, Broken Beat... whatever the case, it's really good.

Experimental UK group, really impossibe to classify because their stuff is all over the place... this was one of my two favorite tracks off of the 'Etc..' comp from Wrong Music, an atmospheric interlude at only a minute and a half.

Another group i cant see being an introduction to many, but i'm posting for two very specific reasons, firstly that their new album is here & it kicks ass and secondly that i'd never checked into their videos before and found out how amazing they were, one of Hardcore's finest acts.

Blue Note Jazz Fusion/Acid Jazz trumpeter Truffaz is often linked to Dnb/Jungle with his beat heavy compositions... while i'm not a huge fan of Nya's rapping on this, the track behind it is so amazing... this is one artist where if you like this, you'll probably dig a lot of his stuff.

pRecycle

Another one of my super gems... IDM/Jungle/Experimental/genre splicing computer music from Israel, his albums 'Mist' & 'Sealed' are both easily locatable from a google search & worth downloading [they're free too], this though is from a small batch of tracks seemingly not on any release  [information is sparse on this guy] so to my knowledge, this may be the only place you're going to hear this, even lastfm doesn't confirm it's existence.

BBC Radiophonic Workshop

To some this group of musicians goes without saying, nothing short of pioneers to multiple areas of music/sound. Two artists of this 'collective' of sorts have been getting a lot more recognition recently, John Baker... who's recordings have been released through Trunk Records & Delia Derbyshire, who's been recognized as one of the innovators of electronic music. This is a fascinating documentary & a brilliant introduction to these sound magicians. The links to the other parts are all in the sidebar of the first video.

Two friends from the UK who like to do quirky cover versions for youtube, often involving a ukulele in some way, this is my personal favorite... the best Gary Numan cover i've heard, really upbeat & poppy.

IDM is the easiest way to classify this guy, but his stuff melds together instruments, electronics, field recordings, natural voices... quite literally everything & is influenced by anything from Krautrock to Chamber music... one of the finest artists producing these kind of sounds at the moment.

As far as Oldskool Rave/Breakbeat Hardcore go... there is no questioning that John Graham was one of it's greatest producers, everything he did for White House & his own Skanna label [aside from Skanna 11 which i've never found/heard] is amazing, not just good, nor great, but amazing... he perfectly blends together heavy breakbeats and lushious instruments/samples, which would explain why his records now go for so much.

Martin Circus

I was going to upload 'Barbe-Bleue' off of their phenomenal En Direct du Rock'n Roll Circus album, but i decided the wacky video to this equally awesome track would lure people in just as well. My favorite French band by a long shot, psychedelic jamz.

The New Dance Show

The New Dance Show was a television show in Detroit which ran in the late-1980s to mid-1990s on WGPR-TV 62 (now a CBS affiliate known as WWJ-TV). Hosted by R.J. Watkins, The New Dance Show was a low-budget local version of Soul Train and featured regular dancers including a man who dressed like a vampire and wore a cape and a woman who dressed as a boxer. I LOVE stuff like this...

Chic-A-Go-Go

American Public Access TV show... i've included this on nuggetz because of it's awesome scope of experimental and trashy bands that have featured on it, everything from Acid Mothers Temple to GZA, Lightning Bolt to Sonic Youth. Chic-A-Go-Go is the perfect blend of experimental music & little kids/bizarre adults trying to dance along to it.

Really interesting Experimental act, this post specifically focuses on the 'make a baby' project, but all stuff under the LD moniker is worth checking, these guys are one of the ultimate audience participation acts & hail from Los Angeles. Also after listening through their Dark Falcon album, i think this is one of the best acts i've heard this year, like Nurse With Wound meets Cocorosie meets MITB.
